2025 US NEWS & WORLD REPORT named Dr.Michael Conti School one the TOP 2 BEST ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN THE JERSEY CITY PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT, for the second year in a row! We also rank in the ~ top 11% of schools in the the ENTIRE STATE OF NEW JERSEY, i.e the top 290 schools out of a total of almost 2400 elementary schools (including public, private, & charter schools) in the state!

Did you know that in 2025 PS5 won another grant from Sustainable Jersey for Schools, making our school a DOUBLE SUSTAINABLE JERSEY GRANT recipient within the past 3 years? Our school is also Sustainable Jersey certified, meaning we are recognized as "leaders that are making important contributions toward the long-term goal of a sustainable world."
Acclaimed author & educator Dr. Sonja Cherry-Paul visited P.S.#5 to discuss with our grade 5-8 students her adaptation of Jason Reynolds & Ibram Kendi's National Book Award winning bestseller Stamped (For Kids) : Racism, Anti-racism, & You - which every student in attendance received. Dr. Cherry-Paul graciously stayed after the assembly to chat with each student & personally autograph their copy of the book.
What was formerly our Kindness Club has now expanded into the Conti Culture Club -- "culture" encompassing a school climate where the aim is to have all students feel welcome, accepted, & safe. Our Culture Club is comprised of ~ 24 middle school students who enjoy collaborating & promoting a positive school culture by doing fun social-emotional learning activities with the lower grades.

At Conti, community circles take place regularly school-wide, from grades K to 8...with participants ranging from students, teachers, & administrators. Community circles can be a powerful tool toward relationship-building, with the goal of creating classrooms where all students can thrive!

Experiential learning: PS5 middle school students witness live arguments before the U.S. 2nd Circuit Ct. of Appeals, & engage in reenactment of Mendez vs. Westminster, a precursor case to landmark school desegregation ruling in Brown vs. Bd. of Education.
STRONG GIRLS GROUP is an after school club at PS5, where members learn ways to resist societal & peer pressures, role-play best approaches to conflicts, explore what it means to be a good friend, be empowered, & go for their dreams! Other PS5 After School Club offerings this year include MUSICAL THEATER, CHESS, CODING, UKULELE, ART, & MANDARIN CHINESE.
